Wow! I can't believe nine years has passed since I bought my Wolfgang. I couldn't have asked for more from a guitar. It's been my #1 axe since I bought it. 3 recording projects, 3 different bands, and heavy gigging I haven't done a thing to it, but this year It needs a professional setup. I played several rock festivals this fall in the northeast, and some were damn cold. I think it put something out of whack cause I can't fix the intonation on the A string.

| Wolfgang Special Quilt Top EXP | 02071018 | Maroon | I am a Montreal based luthier and i decided to make some minor appointments to my Wolfgang: I did a fret job to match the fret profile of the EVH Musicman, and i sanded and oiled/waxed finished the back of the neck to make it more like the EVH Musicman. Then i worked on the locking nut to make the action & intonation at first fret better. Then i sanded the neck pocket to remove paint and dirt and get a better fit for the neck in order to get the most sustain and energy transfer between the body and the neck. Besides that i changed a defective pot and replaced it with a 250K Ernie Ball and i switched the volume knob to a tone knob... just like Ed's... besides that the guitar looks original but sounds and feels like a dream, i absolutely love it!! Anyone who knows anything about 1st year production quilts knows that there were only about 2000 guitars made starting roughly with serial #91000580 and that the body wood was curly maple and then swithed to flame top..Not basswood. This guitar is NOT FOR SALE although I might consider selling it, with a starting bid of $50,000.00. It will be worth $50-100k in the next 10 to 15 years..(and will probably triple upon EVH's death, God forbid...Love Ya EVH...Long live the King...By the way, when's the next album coming out?) being that it is one of the first year production quilts and it has the 666 serial number. It is also probably also circa #86 in production of first year quilts. This guitar is the "red violin" of this model guitars. It has beautiful creamy violin tone. I have not done any mods except for changing the strap screws to 5/8" eyelet screws.(more sturdy and have better support) I have played a few gigs with it. Not many.(I am not an EVH wanna-be.)It is a 9.8 on a 10 scale. The absolute best sounding guitar I have ever played in 25 years of playing(I also have a strat that is a distant 2nd). This guitar will rival any guitars made ever! Including anything owned by Maestro EVH himself, E.C.'s Blacky and Brownie, Page's #1 & #2, Any of B.B's Lucille'!!(fact),..."I realize that is a very bold statement but I can back it up." A MASTERPIECE of Epic proportions. I purchased this guitar new in 1997-98 roughly and didn't realize the signicance until recently. Lucky me!

I modded the springs by putting 2 on the bass side and the other on the treble side,as i noticed the trem was touching the top treble side first before bottoming out.That cured it and i backed off the claw so it's not so tight but still returns to a positive stop OK.Pickups are great,i just don't like buckers at the neck end much so i might tweak that a bit.
I paid £220 secondhand for it and it's mint cond,not a mark on it.It needs a good set-up which i'll treat it to this week,but it's very,very playable and i have small hands and thought the wolfie wouldn't be for me.I was wrong it isn't and it's got so much natural resonance that the whole guitar vibrates in my hands when i play.
I build my own guitars,just for me and was going to make a Wolfie,but i couldn't make it for what i paid.This is a really good guitar for the money,and don't believe the rumours about the trem.It is cast that's true but i have every floyd ever made including a Schaller 2,and i have no issues with it at all.
Great guitar-Buy one while you still can.

exp the f/r bridge was as low as it would go but the action was 1/4 above the fret board. So I had to get out the dremel & rotozip and made a cavity to get the action corrected. I chose to use a unused blk kramer f/r and put the better peavey f/r on my monster guitar named funkenstein. while I had it apart I went ahead and sanded the neck down and tung oiled the soft fresh maple. The wood seemed hardly dry on this guitar and light pressure from a finger nail would leave a dent in the back of the neck. at first I thought the results would be not in my favor but some how it turned out awsome low low action and it looks ok with the blk f/r. | |

It has also been signed on the back trem plate by Eddie Van Halen! I already had the signed trem plate and put it on this giutar. The trem plate which came off of my 1994 EBMM EVH has a transparent cover over it to keep signature in mint condition. It has his name, and "5150" signed on it as well as the date (VH 94) The neck has both flame maple and birdseye maple all over it....more than I have ever seen. I shopped for over a year to find one this mint....not a scratch on it.......like brand new. | |
